Ireland and Lions Rugby player Tommy Bowe approached Active Communities Network after finding out about the work of the charity through our 5 Star Active partnership. He contacted the charity, offering to volunteer and has since been active in attending training sessions and events in Belfast working with young people to develop their skills in rugby but also been involved in social action around Belfast including the Walk the Walls for Cavan fundraising campaign. Tommy has been an Ambassador of Active Communities Network since 2015.
Tommy plays on the wing for Ulster and Ireland and has been a formative part of the Ireland (67 caps) and British Lions Squad, making the tour in 2009 and 2013. More recently Tommy has been plagued by a knee injury picked up during their World Cup match against Argentina.
