An outstanding night which celebrated the end of an inspiring project that gave young women the opportunity to create upcycled outfits for some of Belfast's most impressive women.
The project empowered participants to learn new skills which they used to upcycle ‘old’ clothes that may have ended up in the bin or donated to a local charity shop. This led to the young women identifying local women who inspired them and approach them to be part of their project finale taking place in City Hall.
The young women led throughout the entire processing as they worked alongside facilitators to consult, design, create and alter the outfits to ensure each of the women felt confident to walk the runway on International Women’s Day.
The event was a massive success with over 185 people in attendance on the night and the young people had the opportunity to be celebrated and celebrate all of their hard work themselves.
The Mayor Tina Black who chose Active Communities Network as one of her Mayoral charities during her event said “I was completely inspired by the work of the young people in creating a bespoke, upcycled outfit. They organised the event and showcase to perfection. Active Communities are delivering positive change and opening up new creative pathways for young people. The work of the young people was nothing short of inspirational.”
